Our introduction to M/Y Christina O and her owner at the time, Mr. John Paul Papanicolaou, was made through our collaborator and friend Mr.Marios Stergiou, in 1998. The owner’s vision was to fully renovate the legendary yacht, restoring its allure and glory. From the very beginning we won JPP’s trust by respecting all his wishes operation-wise and he accepted all our proposed design to the full. Our collaboration with the project’s naval architect Mr.Kostas Karabelas was also excellent.
Re-designing this ship was very delicate work: when JJP took hold of the yacht it was in an extremely bad condition, so a lot of research was done, based on photographs of Christina O’s time of glory, when she was owned by Aristotle Onasis. The concept was to bring back the same morphology and atmosphere of the yacht, but keeping the new function in mind, since from a private yacht it was going to be converted to a yacht for chartering. For this purpose we redesigned the whole layout of the yacht. We designed 16 new cabins, and a new dining room to match this new capacity.
The vessel was renovated at Viktor Lenac Shipyard in Croatia, by DECON, the main contractor. The art direction and total supervision was done by JPP’s wife, Elina Rogkakou.
